Taylor Baritone GT-8
YEAR: 2012
S/N: 1109132100
ABOUT THE GUITAR:
"This custom built baritone guitar turned out to be one of the most explosive, unique sounding instruments I have ever played. The 8 string configuration gives this guitar a sound unlike anything you have ever heard."
This one-of-a-kind 8 string baritone (GT-8) features Hawaiian Koa back. The sides and top with hand-picked wood were personally selected by Bob Taylor, and the label was also signed “Robert Taylor”.
The G and D strings are doubled with octaves giving this guitar a stunning, unique haunting sound, as baritones are tuned down a 4th, so the low E is a B.
THE BACKSTORY:
"There was a wonderful boutique guitar shop in Rockwall, TX, Peghead Guitars, an authorized Taylor dealer. Their head tech, Cooper Wilcox, was a great luthier who had worked on some of my guitars over the years. He would often come by our studio, tweak a few guitars, then take some back to the shop to work on.
In late 2012, when he dropped one off, he said “Stephen - you need to try this out … Bob Taylor hand-picked this wood and I think you’ll like it, Check it out and I’ll grab it tomorrow”. He left this 8 string Koa. I picked it up and next thing I knew it was 3AM and I was still spellbound with the unique ethereal sound. The next morning, I sent Cooper a text – “no need to swing by, do you guys take credit cards?"
